Wightlink recommends the best family-friendly days out on the Isle of Wight this summer

(13 August 2019) The summer holidays are well underway and there’s no better place to spend quality time as a family than on the Isle of Wight, which is home to a wide range of events and activities that are guaranteed to entertain kids and adults alike. What’s more, families can take advantage of Wightlink’s Kids Go Free offer* on day returns throughout the holidays for a great value day trip, or enjoy a longer stay to get away from it all this summer.

Here are Wightlink’s top recommendations of events and activities for families this summer:

Music and Magic in the sky at The Needles

Throughout August, the popular Needles Landmark Attraction will be open late on Thursdays for non-stop games, live music and street entertainment as part of its Music & Magic in the Skies event. The evenings will end with a spectacular pyrotechnic and firework display which is set to be the biggest on the South Coast, full of big surprises and crowd pleasers. A free event for all the family, it’s not one to be missed.

Experience Shanklin Chine by night

Shanklin Chine is offering visitors a feast for the eyes this summer with ‘Chine Lumiere’, where hundreds of lights will illuminate the natural beauty of this long-established Island attraction. Running until 3rd November, the lights will be used to light up the waterfalls, streams and paths in a variety of colours. Tickets cost £4.60 for adults, £3.00 for children, with free entry for children under four.

Ward off the vampires at The Isle of Wight Garlic Festival

The Isle of Wight Garlic Festival has been offering up tasty treats and entertaining visitors to the Isle of Wight since its inaugural event in 1983. Working with the multi award-winning Garlic Farm, visitors can enjoy a variety of food and drink products created using the local garlic. There will also be a great line up of live music and entertainment during the event on 17th to 18th August. Tickets start from £12.50 for adults and £7.50 for children, or family weekend tickets can be purchased for £60.

Enjoy summer nights at Tapnell Farm

Every Thursday during the summer holidays (until 29th August), Tapnell Farm will be open late for its Summer Sunset Shindigs. Families can expect amazing circus displays, magic shows, live music and stunning views of the sunset at this fun event. There is even an open air cinema showing The Greatest Showman and bars selling food and drinks. Normal admission fees apply, with tickets from £8.95 for adults and £10.95 for children.

There’s so much to do on the Isle of Wight this summer and crossings with Wightlink make the journey easy.
