(27 August 2020) The Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport Awards for Excellence 2020 has announced Hovertravel as one of three finalists in their prestigious Passenger Transport category. Hovertravel submitted their innovative Island Rescue service, which is an ongoing partnership with the NHS to transfer patients from the Isle of Wight.
Kevin Richardson, Chief Executive, CILT(UK), said: “This year, transport, logistics and its associated supply chains have been thrown into the global spotlight. Through these very hard times, societies now have a greater appreciation of the importance and impact that our profession has on their daily lives and now, finally, our profession and those working within it are rightly regarded as essential key workers.
“It is important to us that we deliver these awards and celebrate together, face-to-face, when it is safe to do so. We believe March’s awards will be the perfect chance for us to celebrate those individuals and services that have proved so valuable and so important to the nation during this unprecedented time.” Hovertravel has created a new way to transport patients across the Solent at any time of the day or night. Working with the Isle of Wight NHS Trust and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, Hovertravel is now able to carry stretchers to both Southsea and Southampton so patients can receive medical care at hospitals on the mainland and so expands the range of options available to the ambulance service.
