Celebrate the Chinese New Year on either side of the Solent

(23 January 2020) Whether feasting at one of the 27 Chinese restaurants on the Isle of Wight or enjoying the performances from the Shaolin Temple at Gunwharf Wharf Quays, against the backdrop of the Emirates Spinnaker Tower turning red, Hovertravel is the fastest ferry to get you to the Chinese New Year celebrations.

Many restaurants like the Royal China in Sandown will be celebrating from this weekend, with special menus and extra promotions to commemorate the start of the Year of the Rat.  The colour red will have special significance, not just because Portsmouth’s skyline will be dominated by a red Spinnaker Tower for the 1st and 2nd February, but also because Gunwharf Quays will be handing out lucky red envelopes, containing exclusive discount vouchers to use across stores throughout the centre.

Loretta Lale, Head of Commercial at Hovertravel, adds: “Celebrating the start of the Lunar New Year is becoming more popular and with events spread over at least a couple of weeks, there is something for everyone from a simple takeaway to a day out.  With a flight time of under ten minutes, Hovertravel is the speediest way to get started on welcoming in the Year of the Rat.”
