(9 December 2019) Hovertravel has added extra late services on Thursdays in December to help people who want to take advantage of the later opening hours on the weeks running up to Christmas. There will be an extra flight at 2145 from Ryde and 2200 from Southsea on the 12th and 19th of December.
Loretta Lale, head of commercial at Hovertravel, says: “Our customers have told us how busy this time of year is and that they would like a little extra time before catching the last hover home, so we have extended our service later into the evening. Also, as our customers know, our staff are always ready to help carry your bags on and off our hovercraft with a seasonal smile.”
Both in Portsmouth, with the premium outlet Gunwharf Quays and the quirky, independent shops available in Southsea, and with the different retail venues on the Isle of Wight such as the Garlic Farm and the Isle of Wight Distillery, there are plenty of opportunities for Christmas shopping.
There are also many other seasonal activities on both sides of Solent such as ice-skating at the Guildhall in Portsmouth or carols at The Round Tower, Cathedral and Kings Theatre. The Isle of Wight has excellent festive-themed events such as Santa Specials on the Steam Railway, Polar at Robin Hill or Tapland In Search of Santa at Tapnell Hill Farm.
