Calais, France Flag of France icon.

One of France’s busiest ports, Calais has a history that is inextricably linked to Great Britain. Often overlooked, Calais is a great option for a ferry day trip, or a stopover before your onward journey. Musee des Beaux-Arts houses an impressive collection of paintings and sculptures, and Calais’ old town is a great place to enjoy some traditional French cuisine.  Calais’ Rue Royale has excellent shops and if you want to try something different, the popular fire-breathing dragon that parades down Calais’ seafront offers rides throughout the year.

Calais is the gateway ferry port for destinations throughout France, Belgium, Germany and further afield, so whether you’re heading for a skiing holiday in the Alps or Pyrenees, champagne tasting in Reims, or the glorious beaches of the Cote d’Azure, Calais is the perfect port of entry.
