Discover Ireland’s Ancient East with Irish Ferries this autumn

(7 August 2019) Less than an hour’s drive from Dublin port where Irish Ferries has up to six arrivals a day, is County Meath at the heart of Ireland’s Ancient East.

The town of Kells is famous for Ireland’s greatest cultural treasure: the illuminated gospels known as the Book of Kells now exhibited in Dublin but created at Kells monastery in the 9th century.

Kells’ round tower and four Celtic crosses are all just few minutes’ walk from the welcoming Headfort Arms Hotel on the High Street.  It’s the ideal base for discovering – within 30 minutes’ drive – other iconic sights including the UNESCO World Heritage listed Newgrange Iron Age tomb plus the Hill of Tara, Trim Castle and Mellifont Abbey.

With a three-night break – including ferry travel – costing as little as £213 per person based on two sharing, autumn stays at the hotel are amazing value.

That is Irish Ferries’ package price for any three nights – including weekends – at the family-run hotel which offers not just an authentic Irish welcome but award-winning food.

The Headfort Arms has 45 smart four-star rooms and no less than four dining options: Café Therese, The Lounge, Kelltic Bar and ‘the pod’ as the locals call the contemporary Vanilla Pod restaurant.

Irish Ferries’ package includes a magnificent Irish breakfast each morning, allowing maximum choice when it comes to eating in (or out): the hotel is regularly placed in Ireland’s Top 100 Places to Eat list.

Irish Ferries suggest that guests allow time on the return trip to Dublin port to see the fabulous Book of Kells, now displayed at Trinity College.
