Discover Ferries is an industry body representing 12 ferry operators in the UK and Ireland operating more than 75 routes. Its role is to promote ferry travel and holidays and to campaign on behalf of its members and in the interests of ferry travellers.
In 2015, Discover Ferries members carried 39 million passengers and 8.6m cars as well as 162,000 coaches.*
Discover Ferries routes cover continental services from UK and Ireland, lines between UK and Ireland and UK domestic routes. Our members serve the Isle of Wight, Isle of Man, Isles of Scilly, Scottish Islands and Channel Islands.
UK continental services have the biggest share of the total UK passenger ferry market by passengers carried with 47 per cent, followed by UK domestic services (41 per cent).
The most popular destination for UK residents to the continent by ferry or train is France (chosen by 54 per cent) followed by Belgium (13 pc), Netherlands (nine pc) and Germany (eight per cent).
The carriage of freight vehicles is a very important part of the Discover Ferries business, with 1.9 million units carried on the English Channel and the Irish Sea for the year to May 2016.
