Great summer cycling offers from DFDS aim to encourage cyclists to get on their bikes and explore a new destination this holiday period.
The company is offering crossings on its ferry routes to Europe from just £20 per person for cyclists looking to explore new routes across France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. The deal is available to customers booking by September at www.dfds.co.uk/cycling or via its contact centre on 0871 521 5522.
With up to 62 sailings between the UK and Europe every day, plus easy access to ‘A’ roads from its ports at Dunkirk, Calais, Dieppe and Amsterdam, travelling with a bike by ferry provides total freedom to explore new destinations on the Continent.
Recommended routes that take in some of the most scenic landscapes and popular attractions this summer include:
• Dunkirk or Calais – Boulogne – Lille (55 miles): cycle south from Dunkirk or Calais and head to Boulogne-sur-Mer, the beautiful walled French city. Follow a 5-day route east via Le Wast, Watten and Cassel, before crossing the border into Belgium and cycling down the Ypres canal and finally on to Lille, the biggest city in northern France
• Dieppe – Seine Valley – Paris (109 miles): Dieppe is the closest port to Calais and makes the ideal starting point for a cycling trip to the capital. Cycle south via The Vexin and Giverny, before following the Seine valley to the French capital
• Ijmuiden-Haarlem-Amsterdam-Alkmaar (75 miles): A leisurely two-day cycle route taking in the old fishing ports and sand dunes of the Dutch coast as well as the city of Amsterdam. Cycle south to Haarlem before heading west to Amsterdam on route LF20 and then on to Alkmaar via the Markermeer
Prices start from just £20 per person each way on DFDS routes from Dover to Dunkirk and Dover to Calais. For an alternative starting point in France, cyclists can travel from Newhaven to Dieppe from £30 per person each way.
Cyclists travelling to the bike-friendly Netherlands can relax on an overnight crossing from Newcastle to Amsterdam from £38 per person each way. The price includes an ensuite cabin and the ship provides a choice of four restaurants, a variety of bars and live entertainment, plus a shop, and cinema showing the latest blockbuster movies.
DFDS also offers personal travel insurance from £5.00 per adult for up to three days of cover. This can be added during the online booking process for customers travelling on the Newcastle-Amsterdam route, or by calling 0871 230 0440 when booking a ferry to France.
