A Kirk Michael couple are bidding to ride bicycles from London to Paris to raise money for charity, and the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company is supporting the challenge.
Nathan and Christine Evans plan to ride 237 miles in just three days, leaving London on 1st September to cycle to Portsmouth for an overnight crossing to Caen in northern France. On 3rd September, after two more days in the saddle, they will arrive in Paris.
Nathan is raising money for The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity in memory of his mum, who passed away last year, while cash raised by Christine will be donated to Hospice Isle of Man. The Steam Packet Company is supporting the charity challenge by covering the cost of the couple’s travel between the Isle of Man and UK.
Christine said: ‘London to Paris in just three days is quite a challenge, and as neither of us are cyclists by any stretch of the imagination it is going to be a real task! We’ve got a bit of training to do before September, but we’re really looking forward to the adventure.
‘Nathan wanted to raise money in memory of his mum and I have chosen Hospice as I can’t think of many people in the Island who don’t know someone that hasn’t benefitted from the care and support that Hospice provides. We’re determined to raise as much money as we can and are organising fundraising events and have each launched a JustGiving page.’
Nathan added: ‘We’d both like to say a huge thank you to the Steam Packet Company for its generous support, which has helped ensure we can embark on this challenge.’
Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Chief Executive Mark Woodward said: ‘Nathan and Christine are raising money for two very important organisations so it is a pleasure to be able to assist. They have set themselves quite a task, cycling 237 miles in three days, so we wish them all the best and hope they raise lots of money for the charities.’
